Award of Excellence for Innovation
IAF's Award of Excellence for Innovation in Agriculture and Agri-Food celebrates innovative ideas, products, projects and programs generated by the agriculture, agri-food and bioproducts sector that deliver economic, environmental or social benefits to British Columbia.
The 2010 recipient was Roger Bailey of Kalwood Farms in Oyama, BC. Roger was nominated by his peers in the BC tree fruits industry for seeing the potential to make the work of harvesting, pruning and thinning easier and developing a tool to help BC orchardists increase efficiency in their operations.
Using recycled Japanese rice harvesters, Roger created a mobile work platform. Roger continues to work on his design, most recently developing a compressor deck to run pneumatic pruning shears in cherry orchards.

Roger (right), with IAF chair Stuart Wilson (left), received the award at the BC Agriculture Council's Agri-Food Industry Gala on January 27 in Abbotsford.
