The Government of BC provided a one-time, $5 million contribution in March 2005 to help slaughterhouse facility operators, renderers and meat processors dispose of specified risk material (tissues that could contain the agent BSE that may transmit disease) and other slaughter plant waste tissue in an efficient, cost-effective manner.
Strategic Priorities
Funding is available for projects that match one or both of the following strategic priorities:
| |
• |
Assist BC waste tissue generators, renderers and meat processors with the development of sustainable waste tissue management methods |
| |
• |
Prepare plans for the efficient and safe disposal of all livestock carcasses generated during an emergency in BC. Whether in response to disease outbreak or a natural disaster, disposal plans need to be implemented immediately and are to integrate local, regional, provincial and federal governments. |
