A poultry industry advisory management committee was appointed to develop a strategic plan and guide a suite of projects related to biosecurity and emergency response planning. The committee takes a consensual approach to ensure the industry is prepared to prevent an infectious disease outbreak and ready to respond should an outbreak be detected.
The committee makes recommendations to the Foundation as to which project proposals should receive funding under the program. Recommended projects are then reviewed by our board. Each project idea is carefully evaluated to determine:
•
How well it meets the goals and objectives of the Poultry Industry Biosecurity / Emergency Initiative, as spelled out in the Poultry Industry Biosecurity / Emergency Initiative strategic plan
•
How well it meets the Foundation's funding principles
•
The level of industry involvement and financial contribution
•
The level of support from other groups or agencies
